ABDHULLAH SARWARIAbdullah Sarwari is a former Afghan refugee. He was born in Pakistan, where his family fled to escape persecution in Afghanistan. He is the co-founder of Refugee Learning Centre (RLC) in Indonesia, which provides informal schooling and basic education to more than 300 refugees. He was a speaker at TEDxUbud 2019 (The hidden struggle of refugees in Indonesia | Abdullah Sarwari) where he talked about his life and experiences as a refugee. Since coming to Canada, he has founded Northern Lights West, which aims to give refugee stuck in limbo a second chance at a safe and normal life by privately sponsoring and bringing them to Canada.
In this session we learn about upholding refugee rights, the process for private sponsorship of refugees in what is currently Canada, and how this has impacted refugees and claimants throughout the pandemic. |
